Yahoo! Travel writer Bill Fink traveled the US looking for the top extreme travel adventures. And not just the kind where you’re along for the ride, like a tandem skydive or a bungee jump off a bridge, but ones where you’re actually in control of the action.
Not surprisingly, his search led him to Jetpack America’s Newport Beach headquarters, where he was given on-land instruction on how the jetpack works, the safety protocols and the steering mechanisms, but then when he was strapped into the pack out on the water, he was the one at the controls. Granted, he did have an experienced instructor talking him through it via a state-of-the-art walkie-talkie radio system, but he truly earned his jetpack pilot certification that day out on the water.
After flying with us, Fink proclaimed, “To me, this is real adventure travel, not what passes for “adventure travel” these days—getting wrapped like a sack of potatoes into a harness for the “extreme” activity of a bungee-jump, zip line, or rollercoaster.”
The other activities to make the list: sports car racing in Las Vegas, Sky Combat also in Las Vegas, Desert Wolf Tours in Arizona and Xtreme Hummer Adventures in Pismo Beach, CA.
When you’re ready to book your next truly extreme vacation activity, look no further than Jetpack America or one of the other companies mentioned above.
